What we do, in detail

Total pricing, reviews, online retail, and wholesale and media.

Program 01 · Nothing added later

Total pricing

An invitation to purchase has to state the total price including any tax, fee or charge a customer cannot avoid paying, and where a price genuinely cannot be calculated in advance, how it will be calculated. That rules out the familiar checkout where compulsory costs appear one at a time. Optional extras stay optional and are never pre-selected, which is a related trick and an equally tiresome one.

  • Headline includes all
  • Nothing compulsory later
  • Extras not pre-ticked
  • Calculation stated if variable

Step 1 · The price

Total, with everything unavoidable.

Step 2 · The extras

Offered, never pre-selected.

Step 3 · The checkout

Same number as the first screen.

Step 4 · The receipt

Matching both.

Step 1 · Nothing written

Not by us, not for us.

Step 2 · Nothing bought

At any price.

Step 3 · Nothing filtered

The bad ones stay.

Step 4 · Nothing implied

No unverified claims of purchase.

Program 02 · Never bought

Reviews

Submitting false reviews, commissioning someone to submit them, misrepresenting reviews, and claiming reviews come from real purchasers without reasonable steps to check are all prohibited outright. So we do not write them, buy them, incentivise them or remove the unflattering ones. The competition authority can now enforce this directly with penalties set against worldwide turnover, which has changed the calculation for anyone who was tempted.

  • Prohibited outright
  • None commissioned
  • None suppressed
  • Direct enforcement

Program 03 · Distance selling

Online retail

Buying at a distance brings a right to cancel within fourteen days of receiving the goods, with no reason required, and a refund within fourteen days of their return or evidence of return, including the cheapest standard outbound delivery. Where no delivery period is agreed, thirty days is the limit. Risk stays with us until the goods are in your hands, so a parcel lost in transit is our problem.

  • Fourteen-day cancellation
  • Refund includes delivery
  • Thirty-day limit
  • Risk ours until delivery

Program 04 · Labelled as what it is

Wholesale and media

Wholesale supply runs on the terms agreed for it, and the consumer protections described elsewhere apply to consumers rather than to business buyers, which is worth saying rather than blurring. On the media side, where advertising space is sold or arranged on behalf of another party, the commercial nature of the resulting communication has to be identifiable to whoever receives it. We do not arrange paid promotion dressed as independent editorial.

  • Trade terms apply
  • Consumer rules distinguished
  • Commercial nature clear
  • No disguised editorial
